Bondi Apartment
The Glenayr sits on a prominent Bondi intersection, away from the main beach. The key to this project was to create a building that would become a landmark, offering unique apartments with far greater amenity than any on the market with a dining precinct fronting the park.
The design splits the building into two, creating a light well with screened crossing bridges connecting the apartments to the lift core. This split can be seen from the street creating a dramatic night scene for passers-by, particularly of the moving silhouettes on the bridges. This light well allows all 33 apartments to receive northern sunlight and achieve natural cross ventilation. The facade is made up of a shifted grid of screens set diagonal to the building. This simple and timeless facade changes as the sun moves throughout the day, manipulating light and shade across the length of the building.
