Hydro Majestic
MOSTAGHIM was engaged to redesign this iconic hotel within the constraints of an existing approved development application (DA). The previous plans, completed by another firm, were inefficient both operationally and financially, with high construction costs and too few guest rooms to ensure commercial viability.
Through strategic planning, the redesign improved connections between the 14 buildings across the site, reduced the number of commercial kitchens while maintaining all food and beverage outlets and function spaces, and introduced cost-effective building methods that reduced construction costs by 25%. At the same time, guest room capacity increased from 114 to 155, making the project financially viable.
The architecture is intentionally minimal and understated, allowing the historic fabric of the hotel to take center stage. Overcoming complex heritage, bushfire, ecological, and building code constraints, MOSTAGHIM worked to bring this remarkable piece of NSW history back to life.
