QT St Kilda transforms an existing hotel through a luxury conversion and extension, adding 120 rooms, a rooftop bar, and a day spa. The horizontal expansion provided an opportunity to integrate a new lift core, ensuring clear circulation across both the existing structure and the new addition.

MOSTAGHIM skillfully navigated structural and service challenges to create a seamless extension that significantly enhances the original building. The refurbished orthogonal facade of the existing hotel is accented with red awnings, evoking the grandeur of classic European hotels and reinforcing its presence in the heart of St Kilda.

In contrast, the new extension introduces a softer, more fluid architectural expression, counterbalancing the solid, orthogonal, masculine form of the original structure. The glass facade is elegantly draped in a delicate mesh, reminiscent of a sheer dress billowing in the wind—marking a striking new entry to the hotel.
